One of Sevan’s values is Charity, and the company strongly believes in supporting organizations around the world. Sevan chose to work with The Water Project to aid in providing reliable, clean water to the community in Sierra Leone, Africa.
In February, Sevan accomplished its goal of constructing a Borehole Well and Hand Pump in partnership with The Water Project. The watering well provides a safe, reliable water point located at the Holy Cross Primary School. Approximately 500 community members in Port Loko, Sierra Leone, have access to clean water thanks to the new well.
“Special thanks to the entire Sevan organization and also to all individual donors for this outreach effort and positively impacting hundreds of lives for many years to come,” said Jay Richie, Director of Sustainability at Sevan.
The Water Project’s mission is to aid communities in sub-Saharan Africa who suffer from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation. For the past ten years, its team has been providing expertise, financial support and training to help the communities access clean water. In addition to the well, The Water Project also conducted hygiene and sanitation training, which focused on healthy practices such as handwashing and using latrines.
“We are proud that the watering well is providing clean water to students and neighboring community members,” said Mariatu Gbla, a teacher at the Holy Cross Primary School.
The children and teachers from the school were thrilled to be able to celebrate the completion of the project before the close of the school for the weekend.
